Massachusetts youth hockey players will be required to wear neck guards in games and practices starting Aug. 1, Cambridge Youth Hockey announced.

CAMBRIDGE -- Cambridge's recreation programs and youth sports groups posted a mix of safety, registration and Special Olympics news this week, though no Cambridge High School contests were on the schedule.

TOWN -- Gold Star Pool is open for the 2026 season, offering free public swim to Cambridge residents at the facility's two ADA-compliant pools, according to the city's Recreation Department.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Cambridge Youth Hockey, home of the Falcons, said its 2026-2027 placement registration is now open and it is "now enrolling for the winter season." The organization also flagged a new statewide safety rule: "Starting August 1 Massachusetts youth hockey players are now required to wear neck guards in games and practices. Please come prepared!" COMMUNITY -- The city's recreation site announced that the "Cambridge Warriors Head to Minneapolis for 2026 Special Olympics USA Games."
