Cambridge City Council and School Committee Meet to Review Preschool Program Eligibility Rules
CAMBRIDGE — June 29, 2026 — Cambridge City Council and School Committee opened a joint roundtable on the Cambridge Preschool Program, including means testing and expansion. Mayor Siddiqui called the 4:04 p.m. session to order on June 29, convening all nine council members and five of seven School Committee members under City Matters Agenda Item 2026-92, which had originally been referred to the Human Services and Veterans Committee. Cheryl Olson, Executive Director of the Cambridge Office of Early Childhood, was on hand to present on the program, which completed its second year of operation. The only deliberative exchange in the available record came when Councilor Simmons raised a procedural point about whether standard council floor-time rules would apply to School Committee members, noting they "may not know" the format — to which Mayor Siddiqui confirmed a two-question-per-member structure would be used.
