CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge City Council voted 9-0 to ordain an amended transfer fee home rule petition and tabled a proposal to raise parking permit fees to $75. Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui presided over nearly 30 public comments, mostly seniors opposing the loss of a parking fee exemption; resident Valerie Barnes called it "a mobility decision affecting roughly 10,000 voting seniors." Councillor Simmons said "we spent two years trying to build a tiered fee structure... we couldn't get it done," before Mayor Siddiqui moved to table the item 8-0. The council also ordained a 2 percent transfer fee on home sales over $1 million, shifting the cost to buyers, and unanimously adopted orders to drop city use of X within 60 days and study a volunteer Cambridge Snow Corps.
