The City of Cambridge spotlighted the Cambridge Community Learning Center's Career Connections Program, which launched in 2026 to help students find careers that fit their interests and skills. The program includes math and communication classes along with one-on-one career counseling.

The release featured Immaculene, who came to the U.S. from Haiti in 2020 after working as an accountant there. She began in the Level 2 ESOL class at the CLC in 2021 and reached Level 5 by 2025. She then joined the Career Connections Program's Professional Communication Class, where students learn to write professional emails and cover letters, fill out applications for training programs, and practice interviewing and networking. The class also teaches different job search strategies.

"I knew if I wanted to get a better job, I needed to improve my professional communication skills," Immaculene said. She added that student conversation groups helped her build confidence and communication skills.

Nefira, the Professional Communication teacher and career advisor for the program, said she helps students explore career options, set goals, develop workplace skills, and apply to training programs. She said students also get to meet training providers who visit the class to share information about their programs.

In June 2026, Immaculene graduated from the CLC after completing both the English Program and the Career Connections Program over five years. "This experience helped me become more comfortable expressing myself in English, and I am proud of the progress I made during my classes at the CLC," she said.

Residents interested in a career change can sign up for an information session to learn more about the Career Connections Program. The next program session starts in January.
