Cambridge City Council Renames Goals Framework, Directs Committees to Set Governing Agendas

CAMBRIDGE — January 27, 2026 — Cambridge City Council scraps "goals" label, rebrands governing framework as "Priority Areas" for new term. At a January 27 special session facilitated by consultant Gabriella Salvatore, all nine councilors agreed to rename the city's published goals framework and direct each committee to develop its own governing agenda in coordination with city staff. Councilor Sabrina Wheeler led the sharpest critique, arguing the existing goals are "at best too vague to really be useful" and may mislead residents — pointing to the council's transportation goal, adopted unanimously even as the body split five-to-four repeatedly on bus and bike lane votes.
