Library Cancels Fresh Pond Nature Walk Ahead Of Storms
CAMBRIDGE — Heavy rain forecast for Wednesday prompted Cambridge Public Library to cancel its weekly Fresh Pond Nature Club walk, while City Hall continued work on a grant program for local nonprofits and residents faced a final weekend of construction disruption at the Main Library garage.

The City of Cambridge, through its Community Benefits Advisory Committee, issued an advance announcement of an upcoming competitive round of grant funding intended to address critical needs of Cambridge residents by supporting community-based nonprofit organizations. Details on the application timeline were not yet specified, but the City signaled the funding round is forthcoming.
Separately, the City's DPW is preparing for its fifth of ten neighborhood Pop-Up Recycle Center events for the year, scheduled Wednesday, July 29, giving residents another opportunity to safely dispose of items prohibited in regular trash collection.

Cambridge Public Library canceled its "CPL Nature Club: Fresh Pond Nature Walk," originally set for Wednesday, July 29 at 10:15 a.m. with Park Ranger Amanda Garms, citing forecasted heavy rain. The library apologized for the inconvenience in an update posted the evening of July 28.
Other Wednesday library programming continues as scheduled, including a Baby Lapsit session at the Main Library at 10 a.m., Beginner and High Beginner ESOL classes at the Central Square branch at 10:30 a.m., a Story Time at Central Square, a Fiber Crafts Group drop-in at the O'Connell branch at 11 a.m., and a Morning Sing-Along at the Main Library at 11 a.m. The library's Haitian-Creole conversational group, "An Aprann Pale Kreyól," meets at the Central Square branch Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.; residents can reach coordinator Daryl at dcabrol@cambridgema.gov with questions.
Ahead of the weekend, the library also flagged that construction on Broadway will close the Main Library garage from Friday, July 31, through Monday, August 3, with normal access resuming Tuesday, August 4. The library itself remains open on normal hours throughout the closure.
