Flash Flood Watch Prompts Storm Warnings Across Cambridge Region
CAMBRIDGE — A Flash Flood Watch and forecasts of torrential rain are prompting warnings for the region even as Cambridge continues to manage its Red Line shuttle disruption and prepares for a four-day closure of the Main Library's parking garage.

The Department of Public Works held the fifth of ten planned neighborhood Pop-Up Recycle Center events on Wednesday, part of a 2026 push to make it easier for residents to safely dispose of items prohibited in household trash. The City also continues work with contractor Newport Construction on roadway milling and paving operations that began the week of July 20, with additional streets expected to see work through the summer.
Separately, the City's Community Benefits Advisory Committee issued an advance notice of an upcoming competitive grant round for local nonprofits, aimed at organizations serving critical needs of Cambridge residents. Additional details on the application process are expected in coming weeks.

The Cambridge Public Library confirmed that the Main Library garage, off Broadway, will close Friday, July 31, through Monday, August 3, due to nearby construction, reopening for normal use Tuesday, August 4. The library remains open on its normal hours throughout the closure.
On the programming front, the library's summer reading series continues Thursday, July 30, at 3:30 p.m. with a live animal program from The Joys of Nature at the O'Connell branch, focused on endangered species in New England and beyond, recommended for children ages four and up. A "Stuffed Animal Sleepover" program follows Monday, August 3, at 4:30 p.m., also at O'Connell, inviting kids to bring a stuffed animal for an overnight story-time "sleepover" with pickup the next day.
