Cambridge Drought Status Eases From Critical to Significant

CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge's drought status eased this week after the state downgraded the region from a Level 3 Critical Drought to a Level 2 Significant Drought, ending an emergency designation that had been in place since late May 2026.

TOWN HALL The Secretary of the Commonwealth's Energy and Environmental Affairs office reduced the Cambridge and Northeast region's drought level from Critical to Significant, according to the city's News Flash service. Cambridge had held the more severe Critical Drought designation for roughly three months, and the downgrade signals improving conditions even as the city continues to monitor water use heading into the fall.
